A Little Bite of Heaven

I found this recipe from another blogger, kristina. Here is the link to the recipe itself, Magnolia's Vanilla Cupcakes. The cupcakes are awesome. The green frosting was Nathan's pick. It is a homemade buttercream frosting though, so the taste is really good too. The boys right now are scarfing up their dinner so they can eat their cupcakes. That is one of the few rules that I stick by.

Where did the week go

It seems that lately the time is getting away from me. there are so many things that we do during the day that it goes by so quickly. Jared has been in school for over two weeks now and Nathan is really loving his school as well. I truly think Nathan is totally ready to get away from me for a little bit during the week. He waves goodbye at the door without even looking back, but at least he is happy to see me at pick up time.

I've been keeping busy trying to go through the kitchen one cabinet at a time and clean it out, not only getting rid of expired food, but also of crumbs. We are being driven nuts by these tiny little bugs who are getting in somehow. I'm sure some hefty caulking around the outlets and windows would help, but I wanted to start with the other obvious, food. I was inspired by finding apple pie filling that wasn't expired that I decided to whip up an Apple Pie cake. It is almost done baking and the taste tester has been waiting very impatiently for it to finish cooking. I know it was from www.cooks.com, but I didn't save the link, I'm so sorry. I wrote down the recipe though, so if anyone wants it, let me know.

While looking through iPhoto trying to figure out what I was going to blog about, I came across these photos. Nick's dad and brothher came over last week Monday for an impromptu BBQ and this was the fun that ensued after dinner was done. No one seems to understand the need to wind down before bedtime. They had a blast though.

Nathan's first day and a sock

Today was Nathan's first day of preschool. He absolutely had a blast. He had his backpack and lunchbox ready to go, sat right down on the rug in his class and waved good bye. No tears, no nothing. He was definitely excited to see us when we came back to pick him up, told us all about his day. he was so ready to go to school, especially after seeing Jared go to class for two years at the JCC. Here are a few of him on his first day

Here is a picture of the Fawkes sock that I finished on the way to San Diego. I'm one repeat done with the second sock. It will get finished, I promise. Used Socks that Rock, Spring Fling in Lightweight on size 2's. Loved the pattern, not so much the heel, I can feel the ridge. I'm still trying to figure out which heel I like the best, this one isn't it.

1st day of school

Two posts in one day, crazy. Wednesday was Jared's first day of Kindergarten. He was really excited about school starting. He has already met new friends and learned a lot about the school. He seems to be having a great time. His teacher is really nice and it is crazy how different this school will be from the JCC that he had gone to for the past two years. Every teacher is different. Pam really got him ready for this, I'm so thankful that he was able to go to the JCC and get a great start on learning.

Monday, Nathan will start preschool. He has a meet and greet with his new teacher this morning. We will see what his reaction is when he finds out his brother won't be there. It could prove to be interesting. I think he wants something to do though. He is already bored the last two days with Jared gone all day.

Here are a few of Jared on his first day

And I did finish one of the Fawkes socks, but I still haven't managed to take a picture of it, sorry, next post, I promise.

SeaWorld and the Midway

So here finally is day 2 and 3 of our trip. We spent our one full day of the trip at SeaWorld. Jared was adamant about going on the Journey to Atlantis ride. It was his first rollercoaster and he didn't like it. He didn't like getting thrown around very much. Nathan had a lot of fun getting splashed by everyone coming down the first drop though. This was one of the only ways to cool off at SeaWorld. The sharks were a huge hit and so was getting up close to the animals. They really liked being about see the dolphins and Shamu up close and personal. We left the park right after the 3pm Shamu show. Nathan was passed out before we even left the parking lot. He ended up taking a two hour nap in the hotel after that.

the next day, we were going to do only one thing before we left for home. The boys picked going to the USS Midway. We weren't going to do the tour because everyone was so tired already, but they absolutely loved it. They got to go into all of the cockpits and play with the knobs and switches. we ate in the Fantail Cafe, basically hanging off the end of the ship. Then we went up on the flight deck where they had 24 different aircraft. If you have boys, this is a must see in San Diego. They will love it.

Here are a ton of pics:

Posting from San Diego

I love free wireless in hotel rooms. Didn't quite expect the Holiday Inn to offer that, but they did. We are basically two feet from Sea World, which will be very nice in a few hours when they open.

The drive yesterday was great. The kids didn't even want to start watching their DVD's because we were driving next to railroad tracks out of Maricopa. They watched some movies, we ate in Yuma and about at the mountains Nathan passed out. He didn't wake up again until we were in Oceanside. Awesome. Jared was amazing in the car, he was very good. We met some friends in Oceanside and went down to the beach. The boys had the best time. Just getting to see their expressions was priceless. They had so much sand in every crevice last night.

Of course we are all up now, they woke up just before 6am. Wish they would want to sleep in, but I don't think it will ever happen.

Here are some pictures from their first trip to the beach:
